Ouch, I can always count on you Barry, to tell it how it is... I'm going to have a guess at your choices: Rumer, Cat Stevens, Paul Simon. Actually I'm not sure about Rumer, maybe its Seasick Steve?

OK, four out of seven - and they are all those you guessed at.

But at 33p a pop, one can afford to gamble, and I think I might have picked up an Enya CD at that price.

The Enya "Watermark" CD has an Asda price sticker on it for £13.49. And that will have been 1988, so probably £30 in today's money. We really do live in a golden age as Macca puts it.

That's largely irrelevant - most of the used CDs I pick up in charity shops and boot sales have the original price tags attached.

I certainly wouldn't have paid the original price, despite it being the norm at the time. Now you can buy brand new CDs from the likes of Amazon etc. for not much more than £5.

I've got some with £16.99 and £17.99 price stickers on. Yes I actually did pay that at the time and allow for inflation as you say it's thirty quid an album.

No wonder I was always skint back then.

I bought six second hand CDs last Thursday, cost me £19 the lot.

Even new releases are only £8.99, that's like a fiver in 1990's money.

Your Paul Simon looks like it has the original tagger on it with the price in dollars, must have made its way across the Atlantic with some ex-pat yank at some point.
    Current Lash Up:

    TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > JM Labs Focal Electra 926.

Well spotted - but that picture I took from Discogs. I would have no idea how to post a pic of my own copy, you overestimate my technical skills sir

These days most CDs that I don't get at car boots I buy off Ebay, from mostly "World Books" or Music Magpie it seems. Usually about £2.50 with free postage. no brainer really. Most CDs you can think of will be there.

I intend to concentrate my music buying more on CDs now, just as soon as I've taken delivery of my Elton John "Two Rooms" LP

Music Magpie is pretty good, I've had a lot from them via eBay.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
