Why don't I do just that? If it wasn't for sentiment, it wouldn't bother me at all..

No, they aren't. Subjectively and objectively!

(Although subjectively I wouldn't call it yellow! )

I'm in agreement, what Alex is seeing is an optical illusion caused by the thinner bit at the top being close to vastly different colours & this makes it look a different colour

Indeed but if you allow your gaze to travel from the sides down to the bottom and then up across the bottom border into the area where the lettering is you'll see that the shade of yellow doesn't change.

When you use your senses you have to use them properly. You also need to allow for certain points of reference and other influences. In this way you can train yourself to be discerning.

Alternatively you can rationalise any lack of ability with cynicism.

Isn’t this a great example of why we measure instead of making assessments subjectively?

No, because our perception of change goes beyond what can be measured. I can't measure it therefore it does not exist is a fallacious assertion.

Hi-fi which has been designed only by measurement is often poor at detail retrieval.

I doubt that any hifi equipment is designed 'by measurement alone'.
