I have Dali Spektors in my office, and am very happy with them - and within your budget.

Depends how small you want, but these Tannoy System 600 speakers would wipe the floor with the Usher S520. I've owned both.

It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

He'll have to be quick, they're on eBay, 5 hours to go on the auction......bidding stands at £99 at the moment, so a bargain for someone!

Thanks so much for all the suggestions everyone, hugely appreciated and a lot of food for thought.

It helped me focus a bit and I’ve upped the budget and with a nice discount have just picked up a pair of……

    …Dali Oberon 1’s in walnut.

Apparently, they sound a lot better after 50 hours, if that’s the case, I’ll be bloody delighted as they sound flipping ace straight from the box.

    Result!

Not a problem Rich. The Oberons, and Dali speakers in general, are a bit of a hidden gem IMO. This is my 2nd pair

BTW, it was young Shane of this parish who put me on to the Oberon1s so I can't take all the credit
