Lol - I know... I was meaning more when you had the opperchancity of using a real fire. I'm pretty sure we're in a 'smokeless zone', but that doesn't stop us from burning seasoned wood (simply non-smokeless coal). You can't burn wood without causing smoke!

You can also burn smokeless coal, which is widely available. Chimney sweep comes once a year to do his thang - and there are plenty to choose from round here. Logs are delivered by a very nice man too, so no real drama, Marty boy

as long as stoves are eco versions then there is no issues burning dried hardwood really, although obviously everyone cant do it; not enough wood

Hardwood is hard because it grows very slowly, so shouldn't be wasted by burning. Instead burn softwood which is replaced much more quickly

True. Unfortunately, however, softwood burns way too quickly and doesn't retain heat for as long (smokes more, too), so even though it's cheaper, you end up going through about three times the amount, compared with hardwood, and so not only is a false economy, but worse for the environment.

The idea with hardwood is that it's a slow-burn, so more efficient, as you don't need to use as much of it, plus it provides better heat
