Lol... Del was always much more a fan of The Munsters. Although I appreciate TAF is good in its own way, neither are really my thing. We watched a 4K version of 'The Fog', which defo was spooky! Seen it about 4 times now, and never disappoints.

However, I can only get away with watching a finite amount of what Del calls 'man films' [horror, action/sci-fi or war films], before she *WANTS* to watch something she considers as 'princessy'!

In terms of stoves, you should defo get one, as there's nothing to beat the warmth and cosiness of a real fire, and the overall satisfaction it gives, plus it's a cost effective way of heating your home, and generates a much healthier form of heat

Gas heaters, in particular, always give me a sore head after a while and make rooms stuffy, which I hate!

If you do decide to get a wood-burning stove, I'd thoroughly recommend those from Charnwood (an old family-owned business), British made [so many aren't now], and IMO the best there is: https://www.charnwood.com/

Ours is the Country 4: https://www.charnwood.com/all-stoves...try/country-4/

    Lol - small but potent!

Seriously though, the most important consideration when buying a stove is to measure the dimensions of your room and take those along to the showroom of wherever you're buying it from, and ask the staff what size of stove you need.

The worst thing you can do is get one that's too big, and that roasts your tits off from the other side of the room, even when half full! Trust me, these things kick out TONS of heat!! So always err on the smaller side of what you think you'll need, not the other way round

Our little one is rarely anymore than half-full with fuel, and that's only required in the depths of winter, when it's single figures or below outside! Otherwise, in a small-ish room, 3 or 4 small/medium-sized logs is all you need to keep things nice and toasty!

Also, unless you're cutting the wood yourself, it pays to find a reliable and quality supplier of seasoned hardwood logs, and which are always delivered bone dry, not damp from having been left lying around somewhere. Get yourself a good wood store and keep it filled up throughout the winter, so you aren't caught out by any shortages and/or delivery issues due to bad weather.

And clean out the stove (and grate) regularly, to ensure it performs efficiently... A pet hate of mine is folk with wood burners that look like huge unemptied ashtrays sat in the middle of their lounge!

Nor sure about these wood things myself, effectively it's going back to pre-Roman methods of heating.

    Fair point.

Just seems like a lot of hassle - getting the wood, storing the wood, cleaning the bastard thing out.

I appreciate the aesthetic value of a real fire but I imagine most non-retirees can live without another load of tasks they have to do just to keep warm.

my brother had one. he had a biggish wood store etc and if a tree fell down in the wood near him and was right type he was off with his trailer and chainsaw

i had a gas fire; well still have it but chimney is supposedly leaky so its not getting used. central heating is enough. ive had walls re filled and plenty roof insulation.

After a dull start, the sun did break through together with an incredibly mild wind - absolutely lovely.

So nice that Fliss and I went for a walk with puppy around Grundisburgh. Intention was to stop off at "The Dog" pub for lunch - bloody place is shut on Tuesdays
