“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Dullish start to the day - but not raining. Leaves starting to fall faster off the trees now, and some autumn colours are appearing.

Tell me about it, Dave! Our grounds are full of the buggers, as our garden is lined with mature trees (which give us a bit of privacy), so leaf clearing is an on-going challenge, but especially this time of the year.

However, as you say, some of the colours now, especially the rich russet and green hues, are amazing, which is why I love autumn. If you enjoy the wonders of nature (count me in), then 'nice days' don't always have to be sunny!

Trouble is, too many folks these days live in rather depressingly grey 'concrete jungles', miles from any decent greenery, to be able to appreciate it.

Beautiful day on the Shotley Peninsula. 14/15c in the shade, feels much warmer in the sun.

I got very warm in my Barbour Northumbria on the walk today (wrong time of year for the heavyweight on a long walk, I should know by now )

Puppy managed just over an hour, no bugger about absolutely perfect.
    My favourite field :

Not the most interesting photo, but that field just lifts my spirit - previous staffy used to chase hares across it. Wooded area to the right in the distance was great for chasing rabbits, can't risk Daphne off lead yet (but looking forward to the day).

Great Knowley, where I live, I count myself lucky with the amount of green space. But even the most urbanised places in UK are generally just a few minutes walk away from green areas. If one can be arsed...

I tried to put a Google map on here to show Chorley's greenness, but it wouldn't have it. But it is really really green. I must be really green, believing the BBC weather when it said dry all week. It's pissed down two consecutive mornings
I just dropped in, to see what condition my condition was in

T/T: Inspire Monarch, X200 tonearm, Ortofon Quintet Blue. Phono: Project Tube Box CD: Marantz CD6006 (UK Edition); Amp: Musical Fidelity A5 Integrated.

    T'other system:

    A/V:

Forget the past, it's gone. And don't worry about the future, it doesn't exist. There is only NOW.

I tend to find looking out of the window more useful (followed by standing in the garden if it isn't pissing down )
