Didn't see any nutters about though, in fact didn't see a soul. Been very quiet round here for the last week or so, not sure why. I thought it was just me but the bird in the shop mentioned it too.

Lol - I've heard this before. It's all relative and depends on your usage of such and many other factors. If you sign up to the notion of having a 'carbon footprint', then many different factors make up that, not just the with the things that you use, but HOW you use them.
For example, I run a diesel car with a big engine, but these days drive no more than about 30 miles a week. So is my 'carbon footprint', in that respect, any worse than someone running a smaller car, on unleaded fuel, doing 1000 miles a week, in the course of their daily job? I think not

Same as flying, which reportedly is one of the biggest factors in increasing your 'carbon footprint'. We fly nowhere, so how does that compare with your average 'Joe' going on package holidays abroad, 2 or perhaps 3 times a year?
Wood burners? During the autumn and winter months, unless it's *REALLY* cold, ours isn't lit until teatime, around 5/6pm, when Del gets back from work, and is kept going, burning low amounts of fuel, until we go to bed, which is generally around 10-11pm.
In terms of energy usage, and one's 'greenness', how does that compare with some old gran having her central heating switched on 24/7? It's all relative...
As I've said before, bureaucrats are trying to suck the fun out of living as much as possible, under the premise of 'saving the planet', when really it's all about imposing CONTROL.
