Default Garrard 401 Advice on PSU

I have just bought a wonderfull Audi Grail "Sable Edition" Garrard 401 in a SMD Slate Reference Plinth with the SMD Bearing Upgrade. It has a SME M2-12r Tonearm & Music Master "Black" Cardridge.

I am thinking the only upgrade I need to do is consider is the power supply & wondered if this is necessary with such a well specked deck..& if so which is the best to go for.

I have seen the Longdog but my funds are limited & would need to consider cheaper but just as effective if an external PSU is required at all..

    Any feedback appreciated

It definitely benefits from one, cartainly mine does from the Longdog PS, as does my GL75. Can’t speak to others as I haven’t tried them. Another benefit is precise speed control.

On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio”

Phoenix Engineering PSU + tachometer, Hanzi Hifi PSU, or Nigels speed selector. You've a lot to choose from.

Is the longdog frequency controlled. If so it might make the strobe light inoperable. The nigels speed controller I used with a ptp got me at it when I tried it on my 401. As I adjusted the speed the strobe didn’t show the correct speed as the speed controller frequency changed and the strobe needs 50hz

This is true, if you change the AC frequency, you need to replace the stock strobe with something like this: https://keystrobe.co.uk/product-cate...-upgrade-kits/
