    Default Interesting question...

Would we REALLY be happy with a live Band in our listening rooms?
Isn't that what this Hifi lark is all about?

The Young Ones had a live band in their living room every week and I don't recall them complaining. They had Motorhead in twice.
    Current Lash Up:

    TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > JM Labs Focal Electra 926.

Reminds me of a Jack Dee story from his stand-up show years ago when a salesman in a shop was trying to sell him a CD player. The salesman explained that it would be like having the band in his living room and Jack replied "I listen to the Pogues - I don't WANT them in my living room..."

We are very unlikely to be able to recreate the true dynamics of performances in our domestic situation for reasons of the limitations of our equipment, and for other reasons.

The formats also limit the ability to simulate the realities of positional information to varying degrees. (2, 2.1, etc. etc.).

These limitations of synthesis of a real event do not however prevent us from having a Hi-Fi medium which can convey a facsimile of performance events.

There are also artefacts which are peculiar to the formats which may be used to advantage to enhance the emotional content which is being expressed, and why should they not be used?

I think that our equipment should pursue reality as far as possible by not being restrictively limiting, and that the nature of the medium should be embraced by the producers of the art and used to maximise the effectiveness in conveying the intent of the artists.

I was wrong it was Madness who were on twice not Motorhead.

And they performed in the street outside the house, possibly more acceptable to Paul McGowan. Especially as their instruments were made of cardboard in any case.
