    Default Another from the antipodes

    Hi
The names Nick and Ive been into hifi and hobby electronics since the 80's when i were a lad.My first hi fi system was a jvs as5 30 watt amp marantz tt2000 turntabke with a vms 20 cartridge and a d35hitachi tape deck. progressing throught the years i was never enamoured by HiFi---it sounded alright until 2000 when a patient of mine lent me his home built push pull 6550 amp designed by Dallas Clarke/Michael Nolan.. that was my epiphany and the start of my audophillia nervosa. Since then I learnt to build tube amps off the net, my first preamp was a 6sn7 SRPP and now I have my own preamp using c3g's 6Sl7 and 6g6g tubes-I designed and built it.. Ive built a 300b amp also the oddblocks and have 4 thorens td125's 1 technics sl1200 mk 1 1 sl1200 mk 2 an ar turntable and an array of home built speakers et al-- you could say tubes changed my hifi life as finally i found music reproduction that sounded right to my ears.
I am currently modding a sl1200 mk2 , incorporating the power supply mods posted here and have so many projects on the go that I am sure I will have the biggest junk sale in my suburb once i go.
i hope all of you are safe and well and thankyou to all that contribute to this site...makes my job a whole lot easier and makes me realise how many examples of true genius are helping us muggles find our way
    regards to you all
    Nick

It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

    Welcome to AoS Nick

You will be in good company here with your love of tubed amplification and DIY (well done there!).

You also seem to like analogue music sources with your collection of turntables. (Four Thorens TD125s - I though I was a bit mad with my three TD124/IIs !)

What are your tastes in music?

    Enjoy the Forum
