    I came across this list;

    The Megabucks Speaker List although it is not up to date;

    $200,000 or more (13 speakers)

    $100,000 or more (32 speakers)

    $50,000 or more (83 speakers)

    $25,000 or more (157 speakers)

    $10,000 or more (275 speakers)

    If anybody thinks you've spent too much money on your audio system just show them this list.

    I wonder who'll be the first to cross the $2 million dollar barrier?

    I'd have to climb over that lot just to get into the room. They'd look more like massive headphones.

    appearance-wise they are certainly 'function over form' I agree, can't say that it would be a deal-breaker for me though. I don't understand your comment about them being the 'antithesis of great hi-fi' though? I suspect they are at least pretty good, probably very good.

    I've no idea why he thought it necessary to wear his mask for the photo either, maybe he just likes it?

    Ok, with the given understanding of the usual caveat of 'each to his or own', firstly I'm not a big fan of tall (slim-ish) multiple-driver speakers [you know my preferred tastes in that respect - give me a fat-assed, wide-baffle every day, with a 15-incher, or two, tucked behind it], and I hate black speakers. I like natural-wood colours, or in the case of my Lockies, quality Formica!

    Secondly, and to pick up on your point, as you also know, I'm an 'SPPV' guy [first and foremost, any loudspeakers or piece of hi-fi equipment should offer High Sound-Per-Pound Value] and also, from my own perspective, be a 'giant killer' [i.e. punch WELL above its weight, sonically, for its cost].

    Therefore 'HPHIFI' [House Price Hi-Fi] is an affront to my sensibilities, and the antithesis of what I believe hi-fi should be about: catering for and servicing the needs of ENTHUSIASTS, not 'key janglers' with more money than sense, which is mostly who these sorts of products are aimed at!

    Lastly, I've heard a couple of examples of Magico speakers, admittedly further down the range, at Cranage Hall hi-fi show, and was distinctly nonplussed, sounding much more like hi-fi than music, which TBH are my feelings about 90% of the loudspeakers made today. Therefore, if I suddenly became a crass idiot overnight, with more money than sense, those would probably be the LAST speakers on earth I'd buy (for all reasons given)!!

    Will that do?

    Marco.

    P.S and the wearing of a mask (presumably indoors in his house), just reiterates the fact that he's an ARSE!

    There's nothing like poking a hornet's nest.

    To me they are ugly, and what about WAF. I also question that tweeter, lost in so much other driver area, 1" domes have distinct limitations, and I assume that they go loud which may strain the tweeter's limits.

    I agree about value Marco, and if we draw a linear graph approximating expense, y axis, and sound quality, x axis, I look for an anomalously placed plot above the line.

    At this price point I doubt that buyers analyse much, and take it as read that they perform well, and if they were bad it would be obvious.

    I also do not like black speakers, but life is full of compromises.

    There is also something obscene about the really expensive stuff given world problems.

    Therefore 'HPHFI' [House Price Hi-Fi] is an affront to my sensibilities, and the antithesis of what I believe hi-fi should be about: catering for and servicing the needs of ENTHUSIASTS, not 'key janglers' with more money than sense, which is mostly who these sorts of products are aimed at!

    P.S and the wearing of a mask (presumably indoors in his house), just reiterates the fact that he's an ARSE!
    well I agree with you on the 'value for money' bit which is why I said in the o/p that I agreed with the bloke I quoted that you could do better for less (well a bit less anyway) at least theoretically by having a customised room and soffit-mounted drivers.

    I don't really care what the equipment looks like, there's only a few bits of equipment where the looks put me off enough that I wouldn't even consider it regardless of how good it is, Vivid Audio Gaya speakers as an example. https://vividaudio.com/giya/giya-g2-series-2/

    Yeah the Magicos are not 'pretty' but I think they look purposeful rather than ugly. They not likely to clear WAF but then at that price level they are going to be in a dedicated room, not the living room so not like they will spoil the decor.

    That's two fifteens a side btw so your need for fifteens is catered for in spades

    I don't recall hearing any Magicos at Cranage. Either I missed the room or they were not there the couple of times I've been. I don't recall ever hearing any anywhere.
    Current Lash Up:

    TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > JM Labs Focal Electra 926.
