“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

I think I am nearing audio nirvana, but don’t tell anyone.
Own: 64/100, heard; about another 20.
Can anyone tell be why Captain Beefheart's 'Troutmask Replica' always appears in these lists? It's crap; Beefheart made much, much better LPs.
Barry
I'm not writing a list out, but I'd not want about 3/4 of those.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
The list's obviously wrong, there's no Deep Purple.
I've got the vast majority of it on vinyl and/or on CD, and heard all of it. For me though, these sorts of 'Top' lists are often meaningless and predictable, not to mention rather mainstream and boring..
"Top" based on who's criteria?
Admittedly, some are true 'classics' and worthy of a mention, but these lists are not terribly imaginative and mostly (with a couple of exceptions) the music blokes 'of a certain age' would listen to regularly, and who qualify as unrelenting creatures of habit, with little desire to expand or update their 'musical horizons'
Oh, and who's this "Check" dude - is he any relation to Chuck?
Marco.

Only meant to be a bit simple of entertainment, Marco. I’m sure we all realise some of these list are a bit arbitrary, this one I believe is based on volume sales of some sorts.
I presume you fit into the “music blokes of ‘a particular age’ you describe as you have all of them, lucky you.
Cheers
