“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

There's always been duty on shipments from the USA and China because there has never been a trade deal with them. So nothing's changed.

It makes one wonder if, in, say, the case of valve amps, it's cheaper in the long-run to buy the less-expensive option from China and then replace the valves/tubes in the UK? (Rather than opt for the more expensive valves in the amp and have them shipped to the UK).
I'm aware that 'foreign-made' valves (ie most of them) would still attract the 3.5% tariff and VAT, but economies of scale etc...

I'm Paul.
Hi Richard,
I too am considering the Willsenton R8 and have been in contact with Yong Lee at Chi Hi-Fi. Have you pressed the buy button yet?
Hi Paul, no, not yet. I'm very temped but I wish to home audition the new Exposure 2510 first. I'm pleased with my WD Kel84 valve amp at present - I replaced the two 'pre-amp' valves and to my ears, sounds better.
Also, Yong Lee's reply to my enquiry had a spreadsheet that just wouldn't open.
I'd be interested in this one too - I fancy a Willsenton and they look very nicely made (all point-to-point with decent components) so I'm far less concerned about reliability issues - they also do a proper 240v version. Let us know how you get on!

Before you criticise a man, walk a mile in his shoes. Then, when you do - you'll be a mile away. And have his shoes.
Wavy grooves go thru a RigB 540ML on an SL1500C. Digits stream from a cheapie CDP and a Sonos, into a Yamaha 803D driving Kralk Audio little 'uns. I used to have a Linn but I'm better now.
