NAD 3240PE amplifier, works fine as a Pre - £30

Nice NAD integrated but the power amp stage on this needs repair - the pre-amp stage works fine (supplied with its pre/power jumpers).

Nice phono stage and in decent condition. Plastic volume knob had a slight crack in it (small one in the fascia to the top right of it, too) but both the volume and balance control work perfectly.

Have you checked if there is an internal fuse (glass with chrome end caps) and if so has it blown? Would be a simple case of swapping like for like (check engraved writing on ends) if it's blown and then PA section will work aswell.

Two resistors have blown so most likely a dud transistor, at the very least.

I've come across a few amps where there is a resistor or two which are run close to their spec. They get hot and eventually blow. They can usually be recognised by a dark patch on the PCB around them. Of course a blown resistor from another fault may have a dark patch around it as well!

I think one of the amps with the issue was a Nad but I can't be sure.

If you are going to replace the resistors my advice would be (if there is room) snip the burnt resistors at each end and remove from the board that way. Then simply trim the new resistors to length and solder them to the remaining "legs" of the snipped resistors. Otherwise you have get access to the underside of the board and desolder them. If the board has through hole solder masking it can be difficult/impossible and you could end up destroying the resistor connection pads.
