Great British Menu, for starters, as I'm a foodie!!

Plus, if you're a fan of the major soaps (not me, but MILLIONS are), all of those were also cancelled.

Now of course you can take the elitist view that such stuff is crap and not worth watching, and so nothing was missed, but the point is that some people like that stuff and shouldn't be deprived of it and have their FREE choices, in a supposedly FREE country, DICTATED to by the media for days on end, just because a member of the Royal family has died.

It's simply another insidious form of mind control (which Grant has touched upon), imposed by the system, which I abhor, regardless of my feelings towards the Royal family.

But I can equally argue that I have zero interest in food programmes (which is true) but there are dozens of them choking the schedules daily (also true) when they could be showing something that I want to watch instead.

The reality is the Prince Phil coverage will die down after a couple of days and you get your food shows back whereas I get nothing of interest to me in perpetuity.
    Current Lash Up:

    TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > JM Labs Focal Electra 926.

Normal programming on Netflix and Prime. That's why I don't watch any broadcast TV.

I agree, but that's a different argument. We could all complain about there not being enough of the programmes we like broadcast on TV, and of the 'shite' that's on instead.

However, it's a different thing when you're following a regular series, and which you expect to be on at a certain day and time, being unceremoniously cancelled because someone else has decided you should be watching something else that they've decided is 'more important'!

Everyone should have the FREE choice to watch what THEY want, based on the choice that's available on the usual TV schedule, and not have it dictated to them by someone else, regardless of the arguable quality or diversity of that choice. That's my point.

Sure mate, that's fine if you like the stuff that's on there. For me, a lot of it is bollox. Thank goodness I didn't have to pay for my Netflix subscription (was invited by a friend), as I rarely use it.

There are a lot of TV programmes I enjoy and follow on the BBC, dramas such as Line of Duty, foodie and antiques programmes, football/sports programmes, music programmes, all sorts, and similar applies to ITV and CH4, none of which is available on the platforms you mention - and I want to be able to do enjoy them, instead of having my viewing flooded by what amounts to pro-royalist propaganda.

But it is more important than Eastenders or some food show. You opt to live in a country with a monarchy, and a monarchy that is liked and respected by the vast majority. You have to take the rough with the smooth.

I notice that 'Great British Menu' on BB2 has been cancelled in favour of the women's football, not Prince Phillip.

I didn't 'opt' to live in this country - I was born here. What do you suggest I do - emigrate?
