I’m with Grant, the cold has never bothered me, its the rain I hate. When I came back home after living in Bournemouth it took me awhile to readjust to the lower temperature. Although anyone thinking of moving up here , should probably have done it pre Covid as house prices have jumped up in recent months.

I love the rain, actually. but not constantly such as you get on the west coast where you are, or in Glasgow, where I used to live, where it would often rain for days on end and in the winter months hardly ever get light.

But here in Wrexham, where it rains on average 2 days a week, I quite enjoy it and the lovely fresh smell it leaves in the air. What I hate most are dull, cloudy days, especially when it's also cold, which I find totally nondescript and depressing. I call them 'nothing' days.

And also to see the Northern Lights. Indeed a tour of Scandinavia is on the cards (and especially Finland) when things get more back to normal. We don't 'do' lying back on a deckchair on a beach for two weeks, doing feck all, in some nondescript package holiday resort!

Del would go bonkers, as she needs to be 'entertained'....

I visited Iceland a few years ago, specifically to see the Northern Lights. It was around September (you need a dark sky to see them properly) and it was very cold. At times bitterly cold, with snow and ice on the ground.

So there I was looking up at the night sky enjoying the Aurora, with the music of Pink Floyd going through my head, and stamping my feet to keep warm! (I was wearing my walking boots with double socks). I could only put up with it for about a half hour, before I had to retreat to a warm hostelry.

Lol - that is a strange one! Probably because you no-one to go with. I'd imagine you enjoyed them when Irene was alive?

I love travelling and seeing different places and experiencing new cultures. Got to broaden your horizons and not be insular! It's often also an education

Yeah, I like the sound of the vibe with PF You've also been to Finland, Barry, haven't you?

Helsinki, among other places there, fascinates me. When we do our Scandinavian tour, the plan is to fly/drive for a month, probably arrive in Sweden (or whichever country was most central) hire a 4WD vehicle of some description, and take in as much of it as we can.

Finland, Iceland and Sweden would be of most interest, so if we missed Norway and Denmark, we could do them again, but we'd like to get out into the sticks and see the REAL part of the countries concerned, not just the cities or touristy bits, hence why a car's necessary - that's where you often find the real gems!

think they became more work for me than i could handle and it put me off.. also irene liked the sun, and im not great in blazing heat. pushing a wheelchair in those temps isnt a holiday.. in fact pushing one anywhere of interest is hard work, irrellevent of weather.
not had one for years that didnt envolve that sort of thing. Dont even have a passport now.

irene got ill just after we wed really, and went downhill slowly but surely alas. poor soul.. in fact she was ill when i married her
