The point is that the 'powers that be' need to realise that the rest of the world doesn't stop turning (and shouldn't be prevented from such) just because a member of the Royal family has died or popped out a new sprog.

The coverage was basically like carpet bombing, putting it on ALL BBC channels was total overkill. That included all radio channels as well FFS.

It soon got tiresome hearing the same announcement, then BJ's (well read) comment repeated over and over. We ended up on Planet Rock as we wanted some music.
I love Hendrix for so many reasons. He was so much more than just a blues guitarist - he played damn well any kind of guitar he wanted. In fact I'm not sure if he even played the guitar - he played music. - Stevie Ray Vaughan

I avoid watching anything that involves hitting, kicking or throwing a ball!

Exactly, Alan. The key phrase there is "total overkill". That's the problem with these things: it's always extremes. What's wrong instead with a response that's reasonable and proportional?

Unlike in the old days when there were only three, four, or maximum, five TV channels, so you could almost understand an event like this dominating across them, but not now when there are literally hundreds!

Therefore, there was ample opportunity to cover Prince Philip's death in as much detail as those interested would've liked, and a fitting tribute created, without having to annihilate the content that was due to be broadcast. As Alan (mad boy) correctly said, that's what the 'Red button' is for!

So BOTH could've happened simultaneously, therefore keeping EVERYONE happy - but no, that's simply not good enough for the British media, who have to be seen as fawning royalist fanboys, to appease who or what, I'm not quite sure?

Therefore, the "total overkill" nature of the media's reaction to his death is what's caused resentment for some, when it could so easily have been avoided!

Haha - now I *utterly detest* cricket, but I'd have gladly sat through a 5-day test match in preference to what was broadcast!

I like to watch the golf. Even though I've no real interest in it I find it very relaxing.

Same with sheepdog trials, although they don't seem to show that anymore, which is a shame.
