I guess it's also because they've nicked a lot of our and other countries city names, places like Paris Texas, Durham North Carolina are two that spring to mind.
Regarding Scottish independence the main reason why they haven't been cut loose so to speak is the North Sea oil and gas fields, they've also allegedly found oil off the north west coast as well and even though burning oils is somewhat out of fashion it still generates a massive amount for the government. I was against Scottish independence pre Brexit, but since we have kicked the EU to the kerb it feels a bit hypocritical not allowing the jocks another referendum.

And the Scots [not 'Jocks', please], quite rightly WANT that government to be Scottish, not a fooking English-controlled one, based in Westminster, and said "massive amount" remaining within Scottish shores, not huge chunks of it being squirrelled down to England!
And where the decisions being made by said government are biased towards Scotland, and its best interests, instead of being ruled by an English government ultimately biased towards England and its best interests. Fair's fair, eh?
Plus, when independence is gained, you can also have Faslane relocated somewhere in Englandshire, and the HUGE associated costs of running the base, not to mention the threat of it being an enemy target in the event of a war, which Scotland almost certainly won't have started.

Quite frankly, I'm sick of England getting a bad rap...Who paid to have all the hospitals built in Scotland? Who paid for have all the motorways to be built in Scotland?..Scotland isn't a very big country, and the Scottish people couldn't manage on their own. In fact, The Scottish people, are not managing on their own..They, them selves would be up in arms and revolt, should the powers that be, insist Scotland is to be totally independent from England..What do you think would happen to Scotland, if they did become independent and all English businesses and investors pulled out of Scotland?? Faslane employs quite a big civilian work force, which I believe is about to double next year to approx 8000. Just a few things to bare in mind, should Scotland be totally independent from England.

Who's giving England a bad rap? Certainly not me.
All others and I would like to see is more parity, and Scotland getting the opportunity to 100% retain the revenue it generates, such as Mike has outlined, and be in control of its destiny, rather than shackled to an English government, naturally biased towards English interests.
What's not right or unfair about that?
The problem with *some* English people is that if you're not outwardly pro-England, you're automatically seen as anti it...
And that's not only very narrowminded thinking, but the basis for creating resentment.

im not anti english.. not pro scottish either.. i was always, when younger british before scottish... most of it is banter tbh.. i might add scotland is taxed much higher than england hence some of the extra spending
