For me (the food show), yes , because as sad as it is for any human being to die, I couldn't give two hoots about the Royal family. I have ZERO interest in what I consider in today's society is a vulgar and grossly outdated institution.

Beyond hearing about Prince Philip's passing ONCE in the news, I don't need reminded about it again, far less have the main TV channels flooded with the story for days!

    To repeat what Patrick said:

Tell me, WHAT justification is there for that??

I haven't 'opted' to live in a country with a monarchy; it was where I was born, which of course I had no choice in. If I had made that choice, I'd be living in Italy.

That's not to say that I don't enjoy living in the UK, I do, as it's what I've mostly known, but it doesn't mean I have to automatically like its traditions and can't criticise them.

The blanket coverage of PP's death is fine if you're a flag-waving Brit, and can't see past the Royals, but that's not me. I'm an Italian Roman Catholic, who just happens to have been born in Scotland, so have no natural affinity with the Royal family or indeed anything else that's of predominantly English/Protestant interest.

    Don't watch mainstream tv....

BBC iPlayer..ITV hub..My5..More4..amazon prime and netflix have shit loads of foodie stuff..antiques programs...box sets..etc etc etc...cherry pick what you want to watch...There's little on mainstream tv anyway...all the big lads have all the top stuff..sky, virgin etc.....and you have to subscribe to the majority of it..but you can pick out single items for a couple of quids if you want to...just a sign of the times really...every fucker wants your money...soon..you won't be able to watch any TV without having to pay someone...and the TV license will be £600 per annum..

If it's really an issue for you then yes. This country is going to change anytime soon. And for all other intents and purposes we're all bloody lucky to have been born here and/or have the right to live here.

My Kurdish mate who came here as a refugee can't comprehend how much the indigenous personnel take the benefits of living in this country for granted and moan about the most trivial of things. (Although he's not keen on the fact that knocking women about if they give you grief is frowned upon here, but that's a different issue).

Either that or just watch something else. Plenty of choice out there.

That's not the point though, Rob, as I've already explained.

Being born here, doesn't mean you don't have an option to live somewhere else...

Marco does though as he's got dual nationality. And anyone can if they've got enough cash. You can go and live in the Caribbean if you've got £250K to spend on a house.

But it is Marco. Nobody's forcing you to watch a particular set of TV channels or programs (if they're not showing what you want then go elsewhere), and nobody's forcing you to read the papers, or the news, or the internet for that matter.

I just ignore it and carry on as normal. There's plenty to look at and do without broadcast TV.
