    Yes I remember that too. Might have been the onset of frostbite. They would kick us out in any weather except rain but it doesn't rain on bitterly cold days.

    It's coming back to me now, I used to get that sitting close to the fire. My nan used to call me the Fire King. Apparently I would chuck anything within reach onto the fire. Once I threw my mum's friend's rates money on the fire. It was equivalent to about a grand in today's money. My dad worked a lot of Saturdays to pay that back

    the other problem with shorts was vinyl car seats. Second degree burns on a sunny day. Plus 'British Leyland Dimple Pattern #5' on the back of your legs for the rest of the day.

    Remember when my Dad got a new Cortina with the velour seats. What a relief that was. Always looked on velour favourably since then. It's due a comeback.
