    Default Hello from Colchester

Hello. In the past I've read several threads on AoS, so it seemed like a good idea to sign up.

Regarding my system: I've just started to get into vinyl again, after a 35 year absence, and bought an extremely nice turntable (Monarch) from Robert Isherwood at Inspire. Who, incidentally, is a great bloke to deal with. Very helpful.

In the past 3-4 years I went through a fairly big vintage amp phase. I bought (and had restored) everything from 1960s British valves (e.g. Radford STA25) to Japanese domestic market only VFETs (e.g. Yamaha B3). However, I have sold virtually all of them, as I needed to recoup some of my money. I have settled on a Sansui B2301L + C2301 combination, and that's what I'm going to stick with.

Speakers are Audio Physics. My big hi fi regret: part exchanging some Boenicke W5 SE+ for a pair of Triangles. The Boenickes were simply outstanding.

Music tastes: well a pretty wide range. I signed up for Spotify a couple of years ago, and their Discover Weekly offering has introduced me to a lot of bands I'd never heard of before. That said, the albums I've played to death in the past couple of years are by Royal Blood and Arctic Monkeys. I am also a long standing Goldfrapp fan.

Anyway, I think that's pretty much it.

    Cheers,

    Mark

Many thanks. Regarding the Boenickes, the performance they've managed to squeeze into such a small box is extraordinary.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
