Default Sold: Bel Canto Ref 500S power amp

    Sold...

Having moved on to Class A, I'm offering my Bel Canto amp for sale. I would keep it but only having one pair of passive speakers in the house means it'll simply sit in the cupboard unused - and it's WAY too good for that.

Huge specs, tiny case is the order of the day...

Maximum Power Output: 500W 4 ohms, 250W 8 ohms per channel
    Power Output 1% THD: 400W 4 ohms, 200W 8 ohms per channel
Minimum Load: 2 ohms per channel
Peak Output Current: 35 amperes per channel
Frequency Response: +/-3 dB 1.5Hz-70KHz, all loads
    THD+N: 0.003% 1W, 1KHz, 4 ohms
    IMD (CCIF): 0.0003%, 1W, 14:15KHz, 4 ohms
    Output noise: 35uVRMS A-weighted 10Hz-20KHz
Voltage gain: 27dB (single ended or balanced input)
    Damping factor: >1000
Output Impedance at 100Hz: <8 milliohms
    Dynamic Range: 121dB
Input Voltage for Max Output: 2Vrms
Input connections: Single-ended RCA or balanced XLR
    RCA input impedance: 100Kohms
    Balanced input impedance: 200Kohms
Output connections: 2-sets WBT Nextgen 5-way binding posts
    Power On usage: 19W
    Power Off usage: 0.0W
Internally Set Operating Voltages: 100-120VAC or 230-240VAC 50/60 Hz
    Size: 8.5 x 3.5 x 12[inches], 216 x 88 x 305[mm] (WxHxD)
    Weight: 15 lbs, 7 Kg

This has the ICEPower modules and is exceptionally power efficient. The sound is best described as 'no nonsense'. If it's there you'll hear it, if it isn't you won't. What it won't do is cure problems further up the chain - it won't 'prettify' your music. Ludicrously powerful and it'll drive practically any load easily.

Condition is very good, bar a couple of tiny marks on the front which frankly I didn't even notice until I took the photographs - and they make it look a lot worse than it is in the metal. Perfect working order.

If you are going to connect an active high-level sub, then DO NOT attach the ground to a speaker negative terminal, you can use one of the foot screws which is a ground to earth. Works perfectly.

Balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) cannot be used at the same time.

£895 posted via Special Delivery with appropriate insurance within the UK. Overseas no problem, but postage and insurance will be at cost only and buyer's risk only and customs charges are also the buyer's responsibility.

Payment via bank transfer or PayPal F&F is fine, cash on collection is also possible if you can class it as an essential journey.

I'll pop this on eBay in a week or so, but wanted to give AoS members the first dibs.

If this has the input buffer like I think it does it should sound great. And yes there's an ex demo one on the bay for a pound under £2k!

Cheers. I noticed the one on eBay at over £1,200. This is a far more sensible price.

You’re right about the build. Ultra solid this amp is. And there’s no doubt it sounds good!

Indeed. Not a great time for most to buy - after Christmas and with work being pants for people. I'm not in a hurry at all to be honest; all it will do is load up my 'DAC upgrade fund'.
