Same ol' dark, damp and cold this morning but this afternoon, the Sun came out for a few hours. I managed a bit of work in the garden and very therapeutic it was too - first time in 7 - 8 weeks. Eventually gave up when I couldn't feel my fingers and toes. Looking forward to the next Sunny day.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

High of 5c today and the usual thick black cloud and drizzle.

Weather forecasts for the next 2 weeks show basically the same every day, with a slight (2c) rise in temperature, next week. How long will this awful gloom go on ?

based on previous years it could be all over by the end of February or drag on until mid-June.

Rain here, that fine stuff that soaks you through. Forecast to continue until tomorrow night.

Do you suffer from S.A.D, Dave? Just that you seem to be obsessed with sunshine!

I don't give the "gloom" a second's thought... Oh, and btw, it was bright and sunny for most of the day here in Wrexham

Rained all day here, it was misty, too.

We're nearly half-way through January now, only 6 weeks or so to Spring.
