You have to hear them to understand. Just astonishing. Hearing a pair of these (not David's) has kindled an interest in old Altecs, from which the Maxonics clearly take some inspiration. Anyway, when my boat comes in, a pair of these will grace my suitably generous sized living room.

What interests (and puzzles) me is why the magnetic field generated by a coil of wire should affect the sound performance of a speaker, from that using a permanent magnet?

There are field coil phono cartridges too. I can't fathom the logic behind those either.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
