    Default A Brief Hello....

    Hello Art of Sounders,
I came across a thread on PSU’s for
field coils which is a growing interest of mine and thought that I would join the conversation.
I currently use Diy Open Baffles (4way Biamped)
Using vintage drivers, passive preamp, 3watt SET amp. My hope is to make my own cones
and try them out on the Field Coils as a kind of poor man’s Voxativ. In contradiction to the line by
Groucho Marx, I’m pleased to join a group that would have me as one of its members.

    Regards,

    J

    Hello Jason. Welcome to AOS.

Field coil speakers are exotic, but there is interest in them here, so I'm sure you'll find others who'd like to discuss them.

    Enjoy the forum,
    Geoff.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Hi Jason, welcome. I currently use Bastanis OB, though I went through several iterations of active DIY OB’s, ending up with an active 4 way in the end.

A friend once brought some diy OB to a meet with some Klangfilm field coils that were over 70 years old. They sounded superb.

    Hi Jason,
Welcome to AOS, if we are talking about original speakers that use an iron core and energised coil for a magnet,[i hope we are refering to the same thing] then if your using a valve amp, the field winding is usualy the power supply choke.

    Hey Ali,
It might be the serious beaming that one can get from large drivers when pushed beyond their limitations but I found that I simply could not get full range or 2-3way to work. The 4way arrangement I’m using was a revelation. One day I’ll build it better with new drivers.
