Phasemation's new entry-level PP-200 stereo moving coil cartridge, and DG-100 cartridge/SUT degausser are now in stock and available from Ammonite Audio, with free UK shipping.

The PP-200 costs £995 and is definitely a chip off the Phasemation block, sharing other models' traits of unusually low surface noise, very secure tracking, and a spacious and eloquent sound character. No, it's not a PP-500 on the cheap, but at this price point I think it may be one of the best cartridges currently available, and being from Phasemation the physical quality is just superb - the body is machined aluminium alloy; and the boron cantilever and line contact tip are the same as in other Phasemation cartridges. It's a touch lighter than other Phasemations, and compliance is a little higher too, so the PP-200 is best suited to medium/upper medium mass arms.

Next, Phasemation's DG-100 degaussing (demagnetising) gadget, priced at £275. This is certainly not a new idea (I have an old Gryphon one here) but very effective one nevertheless. Scoffers won't believe that cartridges and SUTs don't need demagnetising, but the results are very clear to hear, and particularly so with SUTs. An occasional treatment from the DG-100 lifts away some 'haze' and the resulting sound becomes much more open and natural. The DG-100 can be used with MC cartridges, as well as MM cartridges (you must remove the stylus before demagnetising), and MC step-up transformers.
