If you've got a big garden, how about a couple of sheep? Hypoallergenic (probably), and you get your grass cut for free
If you do choose to get a rat I'd advise buying from a breeder rather than capturing one from behind the bins.

not like them to wander far without knowing their way back. they are quite keen on staying fairly close to their master.
miss both mine.. shawn, was a character. he would wander when out a walk but would come to heel if called or if i went out of sight. he could run all day.. hope she can be found

Thanks. We live in the middle of the countryside and she liked to run off and hunt around for things to chase: she'd done it before and always came back once she'd had her fun, but I think this time she chased something too far and couldn't find her way back home.
She was seen a couple of times about 5 miles away but the trail has since gone very cold (lockdown really didn't help), but we are still looking. Hopefully she's alright somewhere.
