To go with my new gainclone amp. Agnostic on type but nothing too expensive and no passives please (unless they have a built in buffer).

Search on hold as I've just bought this on eBay which seems to fit the bill nicely and has the added bonus of a quality dac built in

Love my Audio GD Power Amp so if your pre is in the same mould, you’ve done well

Can you not use the normal XLR connectors?

Yes but these are apparently for a proprietary output stage called ACSS or something I'll get a link.
Edit here it is:

DAC arrived today, it's brilliant! 48 level relay controlled stepped attenuator (x2 steps with high and low gain), dual Wolfson DACs, good PSU and USB input, balanced and unbalanced headphone and preamp outs. Seems to be the NFB 10.32 not the one advertised.

Have been using the single ended outputs with mixed results until last night. Tried the balanced outs and I can't believe the increase in weight and authority it's brought about. It's transformed the whole system.
Got a Nad M51 yesterday it's still sat in the box, don't feel any compulsion to try it yet, that's really saying something!

Just trying the Nad now, very clean, not as much drive as the Audio Gd but just as good in its own way. (Technically much better I'm sure but then it's not all about that is it?)
It really is very good actually, just two very different flavours of digital.
