    Hi all,

Some may have noticed my disappearance from forums lately - there is a reason for this. Early in the year I had tapered off an eventually stopped taking an SNRI type antidepressant, which much to my displeasure turns out to be one of the hardest possible ones to stop, it boggles the mind how something like this can even be handed out like they are. I had no intention of really being on them in the first place.

The withdrawal effects of the one I was taking ("Venlafaxine") have been particularly horrendous and I still have discontinuation symptoms 6 months after stopping, it feels like my central nervous system has had an absolute battering. They are gradually beginning to fade thank goodness (though I had a bit of a false reprieve a couple of months ago, hopefully they really are going this time)

I have done my best to respond to emails and queries during this time but I may have overlooked the odd thing so if you're reading this and I didn't get back to you or seemed a bit vague, my apologies. I am doing my best to get back into the swing of things!

The wife was on those for a good few years. They can be difficult to stop with many people alas.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Sorry to hear about your recent troubles Will.
(*edited by me due to mid-night drugged up error)

I sympathise completely. In my own experience a lot of thought is given to allocating meds but very little support is given after one is prescribed.

Currently having my own little challenge with a mix of low-grade opiates and anticonvulsants for neuropathic pain caused by an as-yet undiagnosed issue in my back/stump/hip.

Still waiting to see a specialist as it seems it’s almost impossible to actually see a human being about medical conditions in these difficult times. Hey ho.

A mainly digital setup with a musical amplifier and endearing 1970's speakers. A CD player that hardly ever gets used and a turntable that is good enough to remind my how enjoyable my old vinyl is. Some cables and things.
