I don't like walking into any room in the house and finding it chilly, especially when I've become accustomed to the warmth of the main room that's been heated, such as the lounge. Nothing worse than going for a pish, only to be met with a loo that, in comparison, feels like a fridge!

It isn't good for you either. So is that fan heater the only form of heating you've got - what happens in the middle of winter when it can be -10C or below? You're not going to convince me that it stays toasty and warm all day with just quick blast of hot air from that thing?

    Marco.
    You're just a softee

I have a little electric radiator for background heat. I just use the fan heater if it's chilly first thing in the morning. And I can always fire up the Krell KSA100 if it's really cold. That's literally a 600 watt fan heater.

It isn't bad for you health not heating the whole house. How do you think people managed before gas central heating? Most could not afford to have a coal or wood fire going in every room and double glazing and insulation were unheard of.

The house I grew up in was always cold even with central heating. Lead light windows, no double or secondary glazing, draughts everywhere. This house I have now is much warmer as it's double glazed and fully draught-proofed. It's only when it gets down below zero that I have to think about putting on a fleece or something.

As a kid, we only had a gas fire in the front room. I used to get quite excited when the temperature used to drop below freezing outside - it meant that I could scratch pictures in the ice on the inside of my bedroom windows (we had it tough ).

I still like a cool/cold bedroom, snuggle under the covers and cuddle up.

Lol... It's not so much for the heat, but in terms of making the room LOOK warm and cosy, so I have to have some sort of 'warm glow' in the room, acting as a heat source. I simply couldn't function in the dark winter months without that, or the room illuminated by some sort of flame (as I don't like bright lights). It's just comforting and relaxing

Indeed, but back then most folk would have had a coal fire in their lounge, even if the rest of the house wasn't heated. And it's not particularly good for you going from a warm room into a cold one. Yes, you get by, but it's not ideal - and if you can afford better (as you can), then for me it makes sense to have the house properly heated.

As I've said, we're just very different in that respect... Any house I lived in, on my own or otherwise, would have to be both centrally heated and have some sort of proper fire, acting as a centrepiece in the lounge, stylish and comfortable furniture (based on my idea of that), a fully kitted-out kitchen, with brand new appliances, same with the bathroom, and a bedroom with a proper bed in it, not just a sleeping bag!

And all that WAY BEFORE I spent a penny on TVs or hi-f!! But, as I said, we're all different

Totally different from my upbringing, which is probably why what you and I consider as 'normal', in that respect, is poles apart. I grew up in a house not only with central heating, and a coal fire in the lounge, but <shock horror> double glazing!

We even had an indoor loo and didn't have to share the same bone at meal times...

Nah, just hard-working folks who preferred spending their money on the house that they lived in, than on fags, booze, gambling or whatever!

You can buy a lot of central heating or double glazing on the costs of a heavy habit of any of the above!

It's amazing how many nice things folks who indulge heavily in those habits could have, if they didn't indulge in them, or did so more moderately.... So it's not always about 'affording' things; it simply depends on how you spend your disposable income
