No problems with trees here, but with people parking their cars 'half-on and half-off' the road, the grass verges at the edge of the pavement are getting chewed up and look ugly.

Took the oportunity on Tuesday to clean out the gutters of my garage, ready for the rain on Wednesday! Fine weather today.

I notice that a lot of people put rocks on the grass verges outside their houses to prevent this. In the really posh areas they whitewash them too.

Strictly illegal of course, unless the verge is part of their property.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Nightmare.... No offence, but maybe that's why I've always found Stoke rather 'grey'? I *love* trees, as they represent nature and breathe LIFE into today's urban concrete jungles! Removing them is both dehumanizing and makes the surrounding landscape depressingly monochromatic.

I especially like trees at this time of year, when the leaves turn a gorgeous russet colour (I love autumn), and combine to paint the surrounding landscape in beautifully rich tones. For that reason, we love going for walks in our local park at this time of year, which is full of all sorts of beautiful trees, plants and shrubbery (also wildlife), and listening to the leaves crunch under your feet.

It's a very enjoyable and relaxing feeling, getting some nice fresh air like that in your lungs, especially going late afternoon, just before darkness falls, then coming home for a nice cup of tea and cake, and warming your bones by the fire!

For me, that's one of life's great pleasures, sadly not appreciated today by folks who never 'look up' (as their heads are always buried in their bloody phones), cocooned in their 'plastic world', and instead observing how awesome, inspiring and beautiful nature is

If you think it is grey now you should have seen it thirty years ago when I first moved here!

Cheers, yeah there are defo some nice buildings, and of course a significant amount of history, but I strongly dislike the attitude of your local council, as you've outlined. I've always preferred 'leafy' areas of a city, as I think they look warm and inviting. Ridding the city of trees/greenery, for me, is a sacrilege.

So if Stoke was even greyer back then, when you moved there, than it is now, I'd have run a mile!

On one road near me, some housholders have done exactly that (well actually they have laid down a few thick and heavy logs, and some of them are painted white), elsewhere the verges have simply disappeared and replaced by a muddy quagmire.
