All towns have got some grim areas.

Personally I like the architecture of Victorian and Edwardian houses and factories, not so keen on 'nice'. Far too close to 'twee'.

I preferred Central London when it was dirty and grim to how it is now that they've Disneyfied it.

Absolutely.. Would I want to live in them, though? No!

That's generally why I prefer the countryside (or seaside), as I love natural scenery. I prefer visiting big towns or cities than living in them.

Yes, to an extent I agree, as 'twee' is similarly dreadful. Personally I prefer 'unspoiled', but cheery and clean!

Can't stand dismal, grey squalor. It just gets me down. I like to feel as if I'm living, not merely 'existing'. It's what I've always been used to: living in nice (but not twee) places. The important thing is that it has 'soul'.

When I see the word "offey", I always think of Offy. Google Indy Offy and you'd see why.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Yes, for me, the 'e' doesn't sit right... I'd be more inclined to write 'offy'.

Mind you, I don't think I've been in an 'offy' for about 25 years. Rather grubby little places, if my memory serves me correctly. A bit like corner shops and 'general stores'. Perhaps they've changed now? Back then, they were generally frequented by chavs and winos, and other rather unsavoury characters. And they weren't particularly cheap.

I buy alcohol from supermarkets or specialist independents, and always ensure that I've got plenty in the house, so I can indulge when the mood takes me, and don't get 'caught out'

We've probably got more booze in the house than most 'offies'!

It's really more of a mini-mart. You can buy anything from blunt wrappers to cornflakes. Vey handy and it's only a 2 minute walk away,

The owner is doing a five year stretch so one of his sons is running it now. I've know him since he was a kid and we always have a laugh. And he gets in stuff specially for me if I ask.

Fair enough, that sounds like a cool arrangement. What's a 'blunt wrapper', btw? That's another new one on me!
