Big Tannoys are held on high, but what about the smaller dual concentrics - anyone know which are worth a try should I ever stumble upon any ?
There are some DC100's on ebay at £500-ish, is that too much ?

I wouldn't give the DC100's the time of day, they are amongst the worst Tannoys I've heard. They sound flat, two dimensional and coloured. Put your money towards a decent pair of HPD 295A Eatons, they're lovely.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Personally I'd avoid any with the plastic cones although I've not heard every model. I think some do like them.

OK, I'll avoid them, but aren't the Eatons rather large..?
My wife hates the look of almost any speaker, and something with as much frontage would never get in the door...
I'm just looking into cabinet size right now, so may well be wrong...

Well, you could consider the System 600 or larger System 800, both of which are smaller than the Eaton and sound rather good. Certainly vastly better than the DC100 or DC200.

Post a photo of your room and I'm sure we can find something half decent sounding that blends in.

I had a pair of Mercury Gold S Tannoys many a year ago. My first proper Hi-Fi speakers, and I loved them! I quite liked the 6** series (hexagonal) that followed a few years later, they particularly excelled with electronic and rock music.
Cheap and plentiful.

Yes the 6 series were good for the size and price. A pal of mine still has his original Richer Sound system from 30 years ago. NAD 3020 with the smallest of the Sixes. It's a bit small scale but not so much as you'd imagine given the speaker size. Always enjoy listening to that.
