the only concern I have with a passive pre-amp is I dont think it will work with my phono stage & 500 watt power amps...

it will work superbly pidge , they are amazing . i have had 6 mfa pre amps and used them with loads of power amps . its a very good price and if for some reason it did not work it will be fairly easy to sell

And if you can stretch to an MFA Baby Reference (v1 or V2) you will stick your original pre in the classifieds. The Baby Ref really is stunning for the way it just let's it all through, my recently acquired V1 was a keeper within 30 seconds of plugging it into my system. Its replaced a MasterSound PHL5 which is superb in its own right easily matching an ARC SP26, but was totally outclassed by the Baby Ref.

I'm Ward.
My Music first has silver wound transformers so a step between the one being offered and the baby ref, however that has ousted a BAT VK5i pre into active ATCs, my wife immediately commented that the sound appeared smoother and more detailed, these MFAs are really worth a try especially at the price being asked; good luck whatever you decide.
