    Jamie,

Welcome to the DECCA club, I have no recommendations as such but I would hunt for any pressing Pre 1965 when things were still done with all valve mastering. I have about 49-50 stereo and mono DECCA pressings, some better than others. I always pick DECCA records up that are pre '65 quite simply because they are usually very good.

Not sure which one you've got but the Dutoit Planets was on Decca I think and was very well regarded. Montreal SO IIRC.

I'm not that impressed by Karajan's reading of the Holst 'Planets', much preferring the version by Andre Previn with the LSO (EMI ASD 3002) and coincidentially (the first classical record I bought) Stokowski with the Los Angeles Philharmonic on Music for Pleasure:

I agree re. Karajan, couldn’t get in to it at all although I’m the first to admit to knowing nothing about classical music. Being a newbie I am relying purely on instinct, simply listening to those I enjoy.
Of all the versions on Tidal this is my favourite, gets very mixed reviews on Amazon though.
