    Default RCA confusion

    Hello!

I am getting a power amplifier and I wish to connect my TV and also music source to that.
As I do not have a preamp (yet) I am trying to buy and use as a temporary solution these plugs:

I reckoned it is right to connect two right channels (TV, source) to one and two left channels (TV, source) to another.

But what is going on with these indications on the plugs?
Have you ever seen a use-case such as this, where you would merge R and L channel into one RCA socket?
If the R and L are supposed to be from different sources, then surely one source would have the wrong polarity.
Do you think these indications matter or can I just use it in a "normal" way? (2left -> 1 left, 2 right-> 1 right)

Don't use this it's not clear to me what it does and you need to attenuate a full level signal from the source into the power amp or you'll blow your speakers and there's no indication to me it will do that.

If the output on the TV is controlled by the TV volume then in theory you could connect it directly to the power amp but I think most TVs output full volume via RCA.

From TV I use the 3.5 (headphone out) to rca cable.
So it should be controlled and ok.
As for music source, I have no volume control BUT,
the power amp XTZ Edge will have a gain control at the back.
It will be a pain to use it, but I think it will work without blowing the speakers. I will start with a very small gain.

That should work fine - be careful though! It would be a good idea to fully zero the gain whenever changing sources, regardless of which one you're going from/to.

Because you think that at some point TV volume might be turned very loud, or because powering on a different source (tv or music) might send a loud "klonk" into poweramp and speakers?
I wont be touching any wires, if that would be the concern.

I think I will try to set optimal gain for music source, and control the TV volume around that, so that I wont need to change the poweramp gain-control very often. I'd rather leave it be.

And of course, I am browsing for a pre-amp.

For both reasons you mentioned. You don’t want to be spending on new drive units too!

What is the music source you mention?

It is Onkyo streamer + Denafrips Ares II, none of them have volume control.
Ideally I am looking for a preamp with headphone option and also a remote.

One of these may save your speakers.

    Very effective, cheap too.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
