    Default Hi Fi Insurance

    1) Not sure if I am on the right forum or if this topic has already been started

Could you point me to the right place please ?

    2) having invested a few years savings on my Hi Fi system I am looking for specialised insurance companies in the UK that cover turntables , cartridges and possibly Vinyl from theft or accidental damage.

    Can you recommend same one?
What was your experience in the Past?

    Many tanks

Including hifi on general house insurance is possible - itemise each piece of equipment. break down cost of record player into motor unit, arm and power supply if applicable (otherwise you may come up against value limit on individual items).

Mind you, I would be interested if there is any advice on vinyl insurance - taking in to account "value" of "rare"/first pressings

Edit: not hifi, but I put a claim in for a dent I put in to a fairly new fridge freezer by accident (only a couple of months old). I only found out that cosmetic damage wasn't covered when I phoned to find out (page 9, section c, subsection 2d...... you get the idea). Person on the phone agreed that the policy was a bit limited - read all policy notes very carefully.

Most household policies should cover them unless you are taking them outside your house?

Specialist cover will be much more expensive than household policy.

Just been on the phone to one big insurance company

I asked them " will this policy cover for my cartridge worth £9000?"

The answer was "yes it should"

I find the yes it should scary

What I want is yes it most certainly will

I am waiting for the delivery of a VDH Master Signature Cartridge and I am Shitting in my Pants just thinking about opening the parcel not talking about fitting it to the arm

For such expensive items then you will need to itemise each item, on my policy it is anything over £1,000. You will then no doubt be charged an Additional Premium. Some policies may not cover very expensive items. You need to check with your insurance broker/company. For your system you may indeed need more specialist cover rather than a normal household policy.

I did find on google: https://www.simplesurance.co.uk/hifi...nt%20insurance.

I have not used them myself. I just have my modest Hifi on my household policy. I use a Lloyds broker (that is Lloyds insurance market, nothing to do with Lloyds bank). To give you an idea of premium, I pay about 1% of my cameras/lens for all risk, worldwide cover. I would expect hifi inside your house to less than that.

I have seen Hiscox mentioned elsewhere for HiFi, but they are not cheap.

i recall using a special broker to get my household insurance , hi fi is not classed as valuables on this policy so it will cover anything really and does not have to be itemised
then one day i thought i would go direct to the company and it reduced the premium rather a lot . it does have accidental cover .
