    Default JVC TT-71 and plinth

Picked up my new toy today and up and running (many thanks IanLenco - great to meet you).
    3 issues.
    1. The hole in the plinth does not give me the correct spindle to arm length (about 7 mm out) so will have to cut a larger mounting hole - will make it so I can mount 9inch arms to.
    2. The arm cable could do with being longer so I will get some new cable to sort that out - it just about allows me to solder plugs to the end but not ideal
    3. Earth hum - solved by connecting a cable to the chassis of the TT and the phono cable. When connected to the earth post the controls on the turntable stopped working - they are touch so when connecting the chassis to the earth stops them from working

A few pics with the DL103M fitted to the arm - does sound pretty good.

    Plenty of tweaking to come

Sorted out an arm board so the pivot to spindle distance is correct. Sounding much better

That's a very lovely turntable, Andy - in every respect, from the quality of the motor unit, to how it compliments the plinth (where did you get the plinth from?), to the similarly leftfield choice of arm and cartridge, the latter which I rate very highly, although it's not easy to get the most from it...

Overall, mucho respecto! and not a trace of bling either, which is one of the things I can't stand about so many T/Ts I see! In terms of the arm. who makes it?

Only one criticism, and that's that I wouldn't house any valve amp in an enclosed space, as the heat created won't do whatever is sitting above it any favours... I realise though that your rack is restricting things in that respect, but I would urge you to perhaps invest in another one (or something different) to sit alongside it and allow the amp to 'breathe' in free space, as it will both be safer and sound better that way.

    Anyway, congrats and enjoy!

    Marco.

    Thanks Marco

The plinth was made by IanLenco from MU25 - similar properties to Panzerholz - with birch ply to work with the chrome trim.
Works well and like you say, it looks good too.
The arm is made by a chap who sells them on ebay - mine is an early model and they work very well (jurijuk2015).

Regarding the valve amp, the gap between the amp and the next shelf is around 15 inches so plenty of space to breath and the components above do not feel the heat

Due to severe hum whilst using the arm I am going to rewire it so no join, looking at around 3.5 foot long.
In the meantime, knocked up another arm board and set it up for my old Rega RB300 - works a treat and no hum

Will need lifting about 1 mm but sounding good with my first listen
