    Default Jacques from France

    Hi,

I thought I introduced myself long ago but I can't find any trace on AOS!

    Here goes then.

I have been a passive member since 2009 it seems, although the forum is so very familiar...

Anyway, I am a French member who has been into hi-fi for about 40 years. I live in Burgundy.

I buy and repair a lot of vintage hi-fi stuff. Truth is, I always buy things that don't work!

My favourite gear? Well, I've got some Quad (33/303-405/FM3/ESL, 34(DIN or RCA)/306/FM4(brown and grey).

Then, Arcam Delta full system (60/80/70.2/One+) bare cassette deck (still looking).

A nice Technics combo (SU-A4/SE-A3/RS-M275X) I use with Cabasse Galion 4 speakers.

Loads of B&O (list too long!).

I also have valve stuff I built myself in the 80's, well before the revival. I still use it as a reference!

I listen to about everything that sounds like music to me (no metal or rap for instance). A keen Floyd/Gilmour fan, classical, organ music, jazz (no fusion), Britpop like London Grammar or Radiohead...

I am a keen vinyl and CD owner and collector. I use antique CD players like the Philips CD300 or the Teac VRDS 10+DAC. Turntables? A Thorens TD160, a ReVox B790, a Technics SL-150, Beogram 4000 or 8000. Cartridges? A DL103, an AT750sh among others.

I also love tape machines. I have Revox R2R machines (G36 and A77), I've had several Naks, but I just kept a CR-4E.

I don't believe in cables anymore, fancy DACs, spikes, Russ Andrews, well, you get the picture!

To me, Linn and Naim are nothing special. They don't have the cult status they have over the Channel here anyway.

I used to be a silly, silly audiophile, but I'm cured.

Also on PFM, Beoworld, Audiokarma, Tapeheads, Vintage Radio...

    Hello Jacques. Welcome to AOS.

Well if you're familiar with the site, just get involved and chat with the members. There's lots of interest in vintage gear, so I'm sure you'll find plenty to discuss.

    Enjoy the forum,
    Geoff.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Oh, you mean my systems! Well, the pictures underneath don't show... Why? They come from my personal server (no worries on other fora).

I really like the Technics power amp, I've only seen the later ones with meters which don't look as nice.

Also I don't recognize the valve amp in the last pic is it French?

It is a DIY amp I made in 1983. But I reused an Ampliton chassis!

Why can't I see my own pictures?

Welcome Jacques, that is quite a collection of gear and great history. I have a similar musical tastes but include fusion and early electronica, we all have a cross to bear.
Listening is the act of aural discrimination and dissemination of sound, and accepting you get it wrong sometimes.
