Yeah, last night was an oven. Thankfully managed to have a fairly good sleep, all inside doors open and two windows upstairs, slightly ajar for some degree of heat containment and airflow.

Lol... Trouble is, that does fook all when there's next to no breeze, and all you're letting in is HOT air!
You need to circulate the air, to cool it, that's the problem and why if we lived down south, we'd defo invest in air-conditioning, otherwise any extended period of proper hot weather (and 3 days of 30C+ temps in that respect is plenty to drive you demented) for us would almost certainly result in no sleep.

Yeah, sure... Not tempted to invest in air-con then, even a portable one?
We're considering getting a portable one even for up here! The problem is, when it's as hot as it's been recently, you *need* somewhere where you can 'escape'/retreat to from the heat...
When on holiday abroad, and it's 30/35C, your 'escape' is the hotel and your lovely cool air-conditioned room, or perhaps the pool, but back in the UK our houses simply aren't designed to be comfortable in very hot weather, so there's NO such 'escape'. Therefore, being so unbearably hot all day, then also at night, especially when it prevents sleep, just gets you down....
