    Default R.I.P. Peter Green

Just read about the sad death of Peter Green, original co-founder of Fleetwood Mac.
Only 73, but after a inspirational start with the band became a bit of a recluse.
I saw him perform in Edinburgh with his Splinter Group and none of the magic had gone!
RIP Peter, you gave us much pleasure.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

OMG what a sad loss! I saw the original Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac a couple of times in the late '60s, and always thought Green had a better understanding and 'feel' for the Blues than most of his contemporaries.

After frying out his brain in Germany with a powerful psychedelic 'cocktail', he wasn't the same afterwards - being on an even stranger mixture of prescription drugs, which caused him to become a recluse incapable of even playing his guitar. However he was pursuaded to stop taking them, and recovered sufficiently to start playing and touring again as The Splinter Group. And what a wonderful 'come back' that was!

Yes, Peter Green gave so many of us much pleasure. Rest in Peace Peter.
