    I'm John.

    Default Hello from Rhodes- Greece

My name is John Willson and I am a painter by profession. I also like singing so I am a member of two local choirs.I've been a music lover all my life and as a kid, I loved pop rock folk and Greek music, but over the years I started to expand my musical taste to classical, the opera jazz and international music. So in fact, I listen to all kinds of music preferably jazz and classical.
Since listening at the age of 18 to a fantastic stereo system, consisting of a pair of Quad speakers quad tube amps and a Garrard 401 with an SME arm a Shure cartridge I got hooked to listening to a good stereo system and to live music whenever I could. Gradually as my income improved I developed my stereo and I acquired, mostly second hand, some rather lovely pieces.
Now I have a system that I get a real pleasure from listening to.
A Pierre Lurne J4 turntable with a Mission Mechanic arm and a Dynavector XX2 MKII.
A pair of Avantgarde uno speakers
A VAC PA80/80 TUBE amp.A Pass DIY ACA 1.6, made by my wife and a Marantz 1030 from the 70s
    A Pioneer cd player.
    A SOTM SMS 200 streamer.
    A Chord 2qute DAC.
A Whest Audio .20 phono preamp.
A Prometheus Transformer Volume Control Preamp.
As you may realize I mostly listen to LPs and the last 2 years via my streamer to TIDAL and to high definition music downloaded to hard discs.
Thanks again for letting me join your forum.
    John

Oh my god! There's nothing wrong with the bidet is there?

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

That's quite a serious bit of kit you have there, bet it sounds lovely. Welcome to AoS
Listening is the act of aural discrimination and dissemination of sound, and accepting you get it wrong sometimes.

    Welcome to AoS John,

That's a very nice system you have now, but then after listening to that vintage '60s system you had a good start!

    Enjoy the Forum

It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
