Smile Microlift - bit of vintage hifi

Found this going through stuff during lockdown - (belonged to an uncle who was an early audiophile, contributed to “Gramaphone” and compiled the WERM - World Encyclopaedia of Recorded Music). It’s never been used as far as I know; I guess it dates from the 1950s. Not sure about value - maybe offers over £10 - best offer after two weeks secures, if that’s permitted.

Quite sought after by users of Decca arms. You've quoted a starting price, so that should be fine.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Well it cost almost 30 shillings (or £1.50). Assuming that figure dates from 1950, then using https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/mone...ion-calculator, £1.50 translates to around £52 today, so your initial asking price of £10 is quite reasonable.

    Good luck with the sale.

I guess so - had no idea what it might be worth, so thought I’d invite offers. But happy to fix a price - at say £50 along the lines of Barry’s inflation-adjusted suggestion? If that keeps everyone happy?

I'm not suggesting you fix the price at £50; all I was saying was £1.50 in 1950 translates to ~ £50 today.

Given that the item is unused and comes in the original box, I would have thought £20 - £25 would be a reasonable figure.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
