    Default Newbie here!

Good morning all...Im (obviously!) a newbie here.

I dont have a system to speak off...hence why Im joining this forum for words of wisdom and advice!

I used to (70s/80s) really be into listening to music..The last "decent" stereo, I bought, was a Sony stack system...about 1991/2....it cost me about £500...used it for years, then got married, kids came along, my "me" time got less and less, so didnt listen to much music then...when I did...it wasnt records! but C.D. and digital...eventually, mostly listened to music on laptop etc.

Im now looking to get back into music, so want to buy a system...I am waiting on a pair of B and W CM1s to be delivered...should be next week....so now I need, amp, C.D. player etc etc.

Over the past few days, Ive been scouring the internet, for advice/info, on what to buy etc....Phew! Im lost..its a rabbit hole! SO many things to buy, not sure what Im doing!

Id "planned" on spending about £1,000...which I thought (before looking online!), was a decent amount of money...its not really! Though I think I should be able to get something half decent (for me anyway!) for that money,,,,,,,Then on another forum, where I was asking questions (that was on a watch forum by the way!)...somebody suggested I join a hi-fi forum.....so here I am!

I will be (sorry in advance!) asking for lots and lots of advice , on whats best for me and my budget!! lol!! ie.on amps. tuners etc erc......Thats it folks!

welcome Raymond... CM1's are 8 ohm 30 to 100 watt 2 ways so you'll be looking for an amp that can hit those parameters, of which there are plenty in the second hand market where the value is better. new, maybe look are the quad stuff too.. the vena etc are pretty decent integrateds. £1000 is going to be more than plenty in the 2nd hand market tho

A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

    Hi Raymond. Welcome to AOS.

Sounds like you may be floundering a bit with equipment choices. I'd suggest keeping things as simple as you can until you get a full idea of where you want to get to.

Your first thoughts should be about the source, like maybe digital streaming or CD or records for instance. Then work from there.

Start a thread in the Blank Canvas section and outline your ideas and expectations, I'm sure you'll get a decent response.

    Enjoy the forum,
    Geoff.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

As Geoff says, start a new thread in Blank Canvas for advice - I'm sure you will get plenty of help.

Hi Raymond and welcome to AoS, I am sure you will get lots of advise on here, there are many knowledgeable people with lots of experience putting systems together that sound good. If you prepared to use your cash on some good 2nd hand gear you should get a good sounding system, although Vinyl reproduction on a budget can be a challenge IMO, it really depends on what you want from a system.
Listening is the act of aural discrimination and dissemination of sound, and accepting you get it wrong sometimes.

Analog Inputs: Pro-Ject Signature 10 TT & arm, Benz Micro LP-S, Michel Cusis MC, Goldring 2500 and Ortofon Rondo Blue cartridges, Hitachi FT5500 mk2 Tuner

Digital:- Marantz SA-KI Pearl CD player, RaspberryPi/HifiBerry Digi+ Pro, Buffalo NAS Drive

Amplification:- AudioValve Sunilda phono stage, Krell KSP-7B pre-amp, Krell KSA-80 power amp

Output: Wilson Benesch Vector speakers, KLH Ultimate One Headphones

Cables: Tellurium Q Ultra Black II RCA & Chord Epic 2 RCA, various speaker leads, & links

I think I am nearing audio nirvana, but don’t tell anyone.
