    Lest we forget, the Linn Karik with which the deck is being compared was a top flight CD player in its day, so the difference is perhaps unsurprising.

    That’s a very good point. I should have said that the Karik is in for repair and I was actually using a Marantz 6000 KI signature - impressive for the money. I did actually spend a bit more time fettling with the tonearm too, which may have helped. All an interesting learning curve.
