    Default Revox A77 rebuild

I now own 3 A77's and none of them work properly

The latest purchase arrived 2 days ago , It's in lovely condition and was suposed to be in working order

I plugged it in last night and switched it on , The power bulb filckered along with one VU meter bulb , Then nothing , dead as a dodo .

Checked before switching on that it was on 240 volts Yes , Tested the external fuse OK

Removed the case and tested the 2 internal fuse's both test OK

Started haveing a look around inside with torch in hand and found this on the main power board

Even that one look decidedly dud

Decide to take the plunge and order a kit of parts to rebuild the boards all 7 also change the 3 big motor caps and some other bits , and the tape counter belt

All ordered , I now sit and wait

Should be well worth doing Al, be nice machines once they’re up and running.

Nice, I’d be concentrating on the 15 ips. :-)

The Tandberg I have is a 7.5 machine and sounds great.

yes those pesky Evox Rifa caps are guaranteed to fail can be real smoke / stink bombs as well, the Frako's, phillips, rodestine and tants all have to be replaced
The recap kits off Revox online are good as well Nichicon FC caps are nice for the Revox machines
Good luck with your rebuild it can be vary rewarding
I would recommend trying to fix what is wrong first if possible, then do the recap on a board at a time checking everything works each time.

The new Sunstan caps arrived yesterday to replace the old Rifa Miniprint units

De soldered the old ones 1 unit at a time and put the new ones in, Thinking " It should at least power up now "

    ANNNNNND Nothing

    Checked the plug fuse OK

Checked the 2 internal fuses both OK

    Now what

Time to have a read of the service book me think's , Although most of it will be like hyroglifics to me

When you are powering up do you have any lights on at all Al?
Is the back off ?, there are 2 pins in the back panel the make the continuity to the 240V power
