Default HELP! - Cartride tag repair

I need some advice please. I managed to snap off a cartridge tag whilst changing a cartridge. I've managed to get the litz ready for a cartridge tag (which I've purchased). Can anyone suggest a decent tool for crimping or are there any specific tips for soldering. I tried soldering earlier but I managed to obliterate the litz wire, probably soldering iron too hot. Thanks in advance.

Suspect its going to be easier to get replacement leads unless your arm is wired right through. It looks like a SME of some kind so suspect note.

The Audio Technica leads are very good value at £10 a set. The following link is Deco Audio so legit. They also unlike some, fit well onto the slightly smaller pins in the SME head shell.

In fact I am going to order myself a spare set.

A light touch required Andy , solder wire thin as you can get and with a low melting point . Also make sure the end which you plug into the cartridge is pointing upwards because if the solder is allowed to run into that end you won't be able to push it on to the cartridge tag as it will be full of solder .

I did this to my RB300 recently, and with age and lack of practice it took a long time to attach a replacement kit of superior tags.

Use a magnifier lens and a tapered soldering iron bit.

I used two toolmakers clamps, a large one flat on the table holding a smaller one pointing up vertically in which the tags were held. After preparation clean up and tinning, the wires can be pulled gently down to the tag and positioned to solder.

I always solder a small length of solder to the tag or terminal so that its length protrudes un-melted and attached, then when iron and heat are applied, this will melt and run producing the best chance of a good joint, but you must ensure cleanliness, and tin the parts before this assembly.
