I think Akai older amps like this are quite underrated. One can have nice power amp for cheap.
From about 6 Akai amps I have or had in past AA8080, AA8030, AV-U8, AM-U55, AM-U04, AM-73, all were close to neutral presentation, very good ability to drive harder loads, newer ones more then older ones touching that regard. The sound of Akai in general is not on warmer side, or smooth and polite, maybe that’s why they were not as popular as Sansui, Pioneer etc in older era. But I like their dynamics a lot, they are fast sounding amps, maybe not as refined sometimes, but musical and engaging. They like good source signal and are able to extract/ provide a lot of info to the speakers.
Would be interesting to create a thread where people will share their experiences and comparisons of Akai amps vs other brands.
It is sad Akai is no longer in HiFi business as far as I am aware of.
