    I'd try the Counterpoint with the 909, you never know, it may work well. Failing that, a decent passive would definitely sound good.

    I like Quad power amps, but their pre-amps (that I've tried) have not impressed.

    The cheap Little Bear passive sounded better in my system than the Tisbury did. I sold the Tisbury and kept the Little Bear. (also made an Alps Blue pot passive with two selectable inputs that sounds just fine ).
    It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

    As I definitely need a passive preamp
    I am now offering to package this lovely preamp now should collection be putting buyers off , It will be very well packaged.
    Courier to be organised and paid for by the buyer and at their risk .

    Or do you have a nice passive preamp

    Very transparent as is, incredibly so with a couple of modifications. Go for the PGA2311 version.
    Beer money and remote control.

    I use a similar modified unit in my system.
