As low as possible, and at least as low as 6.7k.

The AVI preamp in its last incarnation had an O/P impedance of 0.1 ohms, and could drive a torch light bulb

1 to 20 ratio (pre to power) to be totally on the safe side.

It needs to see at least 30Kohm so yes it should work fine with the Usher

OK OK, I am just toying with the idea of buying a Croft Micro 25R preamp for use with the Usher power amp. Any thoughts..?

It would have to have one volume pot and the volume control would have to be 'sensible' but I'm sure that would be possible.

I would need one at line level only.

Whaddya reckon..? I've had two Micro 25 Basics at various times in the past along with a Series 7 power and was amazed at the level of detail resolved.

I used a Micro Basic for a couple of years and I had a Series 7 with it for a short time too. Great with vinyl, not much cop with digital. Just too coloured, it didn't play to the strengths of digital.

OK Martin, point noted. I certainly do remember my Croft setup way back then being very warm sounding.

I mostly listen to electronica and from all the valve amps I have had, from WAD kits, 2A3, 300B and finally and 845 (all with various tube pre-amps), only the 845 SE could do electronic music any justice with speed and scale. The 300B SE was by far the best amp I have had for vocals and intamacy.

I switched to solid state many years ago since I also own a few synths and play with them so for me a good solid state is a must now. Depends on what you mostly listen to I guess. A system catering for both is ideal if you have the room.

Yeah, back around 2002 I had an Audion 300B SE amp along with an Audion Sterling ETSE. I used these amps with mainly vinyl and a pair of Audio Note AZ-2's. Amazing vocals and treble but really not suited to electronic music.

Yesterday I played Mr Scruff's Friendly Bacteria CD and oh boy it was the best I have heard it. The system I have now is up there with my best ever but the air and space of the 300B was better still.
